As a licensed clinical psychologist and certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor, it is my goal to help you reach your goals in life, family, work, or school; and help you make changes in behavior, mood, emotions, and thinking. Through counseling, education, and consultation services, you can make improvements in your emotional and mental health, increase your level of knowledge, skills and abilities, and/or gain self-awareness and understanding.

Background & Interests
Dr. Frial is a clinician and educator working with social service and nonprofit organizations since 1997. His clinical experience has been with men, women, children and adolescents faced with multiple life challenges and barriers including mental health issues (such as depression and anxiety), homelessness, chronic mental illness (such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder), substance abuse, developmental disabilities, incarceration, unemployment, life transitions, and illiteracy. He has held positions as an administrator, supervisor, clinician and member of the board of directors. He has developed and directed multiple departments and programs working with professionals at all levels.
Dr. Frial earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis from the Adler School of Professional Psychology and his Masters Degree in Addiction Studies from Governor's State University. He received specialized training in Counseling Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Clients and their Families from the Center on Halsted and in Domestic Violence Counseling from the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Certified Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Counselor.
Since 2004, Dr. Frial has been in private practice offering counseling, training, clinical supervision and consultation. In his private practice, he works with adults and young adults who may be struggling with depression and anxiety; working through issues related to alcohol and drug addiction; adjusting to changes in school, work, and relationships; struggling with personal identity, sexual orientation and gender identity. He works with gay and straight couples who need help with communication, co-dependency issues, and transitions. He works with parents and families who have a loved one that has "come out" as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered. Dr. Frial also enjoys working with anyone who wants to learn more about themselves and how they see the world, others and self; and anyone who wants to learn better ways to relax and enjoy life.
As an educator, Dr. Frial has served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Concordia University where he taught graduate courses in their School Counseling and Community Counseling Programs. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at St. Augustine College where he taught courses in Psychology and Substance Abuse Counseling for eight years. Dr. Frial's training interests include Counseling Skills, Psychology, Substance Abuse, Mental Illness, Gay & Lesbian Issues, Diversity, Mental Illness and Substance Abuse, Working with Special Populations, Program Development and Evaluation, Staff Training and Supervision, and Workforce Development.
Even with his busy schedule, Dr. Frial makes it a priority to spend quality time with family and friends. He enjoys traveling, ethnic foods, and watching “I Love Lucy”. He is always open to trying new things.
