The Job Journey: Career Development Workshops
The Job Journey: Career Development Workshops are developed for individuals who have never worked or are returning to the workforce after a period of time. Workshop participants gain knowledge and skills through lectures as well as hands-on experience. The workshops are presented in a series of three separate workshops. Participants who complete the series will receive a certificate of completion.
"The Job Search":
The Job Search workshop gives participants the opportunity to learn and practice seeking employment through different means such as classified ads, the internet, networks, etc. They engage in exercises that help them think about jobs that fit their individual life goals, values and needs.
After completion of the workshop, participants will have a working plan to find a job that they will enjoy and stick with. Participants will gain knowledge in stress management, planning a job search, job leads, employer expectations, networking, listening skills, and more.
"Your Resume, Cover Letter and Application":
The Resumes, Cover Letters and Applications workshop gives participants the opportunity to learn and create their own resume and cover letter as well as practice completing an application. They will learn about what information is needed and what to avoid. Additional topics include action words, references, and trouble questions.
"Interviewing Skills":
The Interviewing Skills workshop gives participants the opportunity to learn and practice how to interview with a prospective employer, with the goal of getting the job. Participants will gain knowledge in grooming and hygiene, communication, listening skills, common interview questions, first impressions, problem questions, how to write thank you letters and more. When possible, participants will engage in a mock interview and will receive feedback on their performance.
